TY Killary Trip 2018

On the 19th of March, TY embarked on our outdoor pursuit’s trip to Killary Adventure Centre in Galway. It was an early morning so there was many bed heads on the bus but never the less the speaker was blaring to get us all pumped. We were given our rooms on the bus and everyone was very happy.

When we arrived, we checked into our rooms and got set for the first activity. We were all split up into 10 groups. Groups 1-5 would take part in the Gaisce hike for the first half day and the second day. Groups 6-10 took part in the activities such as Kayaking, Gorgewalking, Rockclimbing and High ropes. On the third day the groups switched over.

The Gaisce hike was challenging yet fun. It was around 30km. The poor instructors were asked ‘How far left?’ every 10 minutes. We stopped on the summit for lunch and the views were amazing.

Every night, the instructors would bring us into the dome to play games or upstairs to do quizzes. One night we even had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows and shared stories. Then the crowds would pile into Room 14 for some funny stories and to eat their food.

Overall this trip was a highlight of the year as TY became closer together as a year group. We were reluctant to leave but are looking forward to our Rome trip to add to the memories of TY.

A big thanks to all the teachers who accompanied us and to our instructors while we were there.
