Simon Community Run 2018

Simon Community Run 2018
Simon Community Run 2018

On the 6th of October, Transition Year participated in the Simon Home Run in aid of the Simon Community.

Two weeks’ prior, each TY class attended a talk by a member of The Simon Community that outlined the important work they do to help the homeless and prevention methods they take to ensure that people keep their homes. This made us realise the importance of the fun run and helped us to recognise where are money was going.

On the morning of the run, everyone arrived early at the Papal Cross in Phoenix Park wearing their t-shirts eager to participate. The run started at 10:30 sharp, everyone headed off energised by the band playing in the background. The route was very enjoyable and encompassed a great atmosphere. The finish was lined with supporters and their encouragement was very rejuvenating with friends competitively sprinting to beat each other, including some competitive teachers!

The event was very well-organised and everyone enjoyed a big goodie bag and free food at the end. Off-Beat donuts were a great hit with all the finishers.

The event was a big success thanks to the Simon Community who catered to all the competitors, walkers and joggers. Also a big thanks to all the teachers who helped organise our year to participate in the Simon Home Run. It was a great experience!
