SVP through the Year

On Wednesday the fifth of December 2018, Duchesne 4 and the SVP committee went carolling accompanied by Ms. Byrne, Ms. Tate, Ms. Fox and Mr. Mallon. We were to sing festive Christmas carols from twelve to two o’clock in Saint Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, and thus, we took the luas into the city centre. Once we began to sing any nerves we had disappeared and the atmosphere in the shopping centre was great. We all wore festive hats and sung many famous Christmas carols, including ‘Frosty the Snowman,’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock,’ and ‘Let it Snow.’ Many people stopped to listen to us and even took videos which was very encouraging. Everyone really enjoyed singing for such a worthy cause that is St. Vincent de Paul and we managed to raise over three hundred euro, which we were delighted with. It was then decided that we would use this money to buy food for our annual Christmas hamper appeal in the weeks to come.

This Christmas hamper appeal took place on Thursday the twentieth of December 2018. The whole of Transition Year came together and assembled the annual SVP food hampers in the Atrium of the school. Each hamper contained food items that would most likely be used over Christmas such as beans, soup, cereal and pasta. In total, we made one hundred and twenty-five food hampers, which could not have been achieved without the generosity of the staff and students of Mount Anville who donated enormous amounts of food throughout the week beginning the seventeenth of December. Once again the atmosphere while assembling the food hampers was great as there was great festive cheer present among everyone. These food hampers were then collected the next day by St. Vincent de Paul and distributed to deserving families before Christmas. On behalf of the SVP committee and Transition Year we would like to thank everyone for their generosity, as well as any teachers that made both carolling and the food hamper appeal possible. We would especially like to thank Ms. Byrne and Mr. Mallon, who supported us through these initiatives and who dedicated so much of their time to this worthy cause. They enabled us to make Christmas for many families in Ireland.
