Minding My Mind Week

This week is “Minding my Mind” week within the school, where we talk about mental health and wellbeing.

Minding My Mind Week

International Mental Health Day was on Sunday, the 10th of October and on Monday the 11th we wore green in support of the day. Each morning the tutors will read out a small paragraph about a different mental health condition and a helpline associated with the condition. On Wednesday it will be “Walk in My Shoes Day” where we ask everyone to wear their most creative and eye-catching shoes in order to promote empathy and openness when talking about mental wellbeing. This is a fantastic week within the school and we hope everyone enjoys themselves!

“Minding my Mind” is particularly important this year as Covid-19 has deeply affected young people and their mental health. Feeling anxious, depressed and uncertain are normal in these times and it has been very difficult for many people. Don’t be afraid to use Mental health resources like Headspace or Jigsaw. You can text 50808 to contact a free and anonymous helpline that helps with difficult thoughts. There are a lot of negative stigmas around mental health and it’s important to be open with the people around you about it. If negative feelings persist or are overwhelming, it’s best to talk to a medical professional when they last a long period of time.
