International Women's Day

We first heard from Leanne Durkin who is a PhD student studying gravitational waves. She spoke about her studies and her experience working in a predominantly male dominated industry. She is actively working to encourage and empower women in the science sector.

Lucy Masterson spoke to us about her role in the Irish Youth Foundation as CEO of the charity organisation. Lucy described the incredible work they carry out to thousands of disadvantaged children in Ireland and really highlighted how important the work they do is for the children.

We then followed this by watching two inspiring video messages from Patricia Mc Gowan and Rachel Blackmore about their successful career paths.

Kara O Sullivan is the CEO and founder of a sustainable fashion business, “Greens are good for you”. It is a website that offers a clothing rental service in which you can rent an item of clothing for several days to wear and then return for a fraction of the buying price. She spoke about her path and what jobs she had along the way which ultimately led her to start her own business.

India Healy O’Connor is the founder and CEO of the Fintech company Xelda, a payment app which allows the user to tip, pay and donate to businesses and charities in our cashless society. She spoke to us about her successful career and how she came about setting up her own business.

Jill Pitcher is the Chief Scout in Scouting Ireland and is the first woman to be elected to the role. She spoke to us about her role in the organisation and the work that is involved. She is also currently undertaking a research masters in Soil Science at the University of Limerick.
