European Day of Languages Feb 26th 2017

On Tuesday, some pupils took part in a culture and language quiz to test our knowledge about other countries and languages. We worked in groups of 5 or 6 mixed with other language classes and the quiz consisted of 4 rounds, each round a new task. For example, there were flags and songs representing a country and then with our groups we would have to work together to figure out the country they represented. We also had to guess if there was a dictionary for every language. There isn't!

Our team drew with team 3, so we had to nominate a team member to answer the tie breaker against one of their team members which would determine the winner. We won!

We returned back to class and we explored how in different languages, people pronounce and say animal noises. We also learned how to make animal noises in different language- no one had realised they differed in other countries. It was really good fun.

Before class ended, we had one last challenge. This challenge was to leave the class knowing how to say hello in a different language, for example 'zdravo' is hello in Croatian. We really enjoyed taking part in these tasks as it gave us a challenge and made us aware of what we know about the world.

At lunchtime, there was a special menu on offer in the canteen so we could try food from other European countries such as bratwurst, crepes and paella. It was delicious!
